US-Backed Terrorists in Syria Getting Chemical Weapons
by Stephen Lendman
Last week, America, Britain and France blocked passage of a Sino/Russian draft Security Council resolution to ban developing, obtaining, possessing, transporting, transferring or using chemical weapons and their means of delivery in Syria.
Washington, Israel and their rogue partners use banned terror weapons in all their wars of aggression. Blocking the Sino/Russian resolution facilitates their use is Syria, Assad wrongfully blamed for crimes committed by US-supported terrorist groups.
On Thursday, Tass reported “trucks loaded with chemical warfare munitions (were) spotted north of Aleppo” – intended for use by US-backed terrorists.
The Center for Syrian Reconciliation said “information…received from local residents (revealed) trucks loaded with improvised explosive devices, which are stuffed with chlorine-based poisonous chemicals, arrived in an area controlled by Al-Nusra north of Aleppo…”
Hundreds of new fighters join their ranks regularly. They and likeminded US-supported terrorist groups reject peaceful conflict resolution.
Fighting rages, ceasefire more illusion than real. Russian efforts to resolve conflict diplomatically remain unattainable because Washington rejects peace.
Along with Britain and France, it blocked Moscow’s initiative to include known terrorist groups Jaysh al-Islam (Army of islam) and Ahrar al-Sham among other Security Council designated ones.
A US official lied, saying including them “could have damaging consequences to” nonexistent cessation of hostilities. An unnamed UN official backed Washington’s hardline position – supporting war, rejecting peace.
Separately, EU ambassador Vladimir Chizhov called on its member states to oppose Erdogan’s northern Syria annexation scheme on the phony pretext of establishing safe zones for refugees.
He wants Syrian territory to “become shelter areas for armed terrorists, where they will receive new weapons and where supplies to them will be provided,” Chizhov explained.
Supporting him will violate Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity, along with prolonging conflict instead of working to end it, he added.
Iran’s UN envoy Gholam Hossein Dehqani blamed foreign intervention and support for the rise of regional terrorism. As long as it continues, peace and stability remain unattainable.
